In an increasingly connected global economy, it is easier to connect a finished product to the production of its raw materials. With up to two-thirds of the extreme global poor working in agriculture, the stark difference in revenue generated along agricultural commodity supply chains is harder to ignore.
Agriculture is a key sector for driving real change to reduce global inequality, and upcoming regulatory developments may require companies to report on social impacts such as living income.
Living income and better livelihoods are also relevant to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, so addressing living income within a company’s supply chain will contribute towards meeting these goals within a company’s commitment.
